Trusty North Light in the Seventh Floor Gallery

(Jim Escalante)Last week I met with Nicholas Stawinski, a graduate student in the Furniture and Woodworking area. He wanted to take photographs of his Master of Arts exhibition in the 7th Floor Gallery. Once we had taken some installation photographs, Nicholas suggested we move some pieces closer to the window in the center of the gallery. It was a brilliant idea, since the window faces north and the window is large. In the photograph above, you can see him taking a photo with his set up. Continue reading…

It is off the wall!

Faculty Associate and UW-Madison alumni Michael Velliquette’s exhibition at Edgewood College Art Gallery literally jumps off the wall. His cut paper assemblages are paired with text by Quan Barry. If you were unable to visit the exhibit when it was installed, take a moment to see photos of the Loose Strife exhibition at this link.

Happy Surprise

(Photograph by Jim Escalante)I discovered the summer issue of the Friends of the Library magazine in the office. Not only does the cover showcase one of the submissions from the Paper in Motion portfolio from Hand Papermaking but it has an excellent article about the Artists’ Book Collection in the Kohler Art Library. You can see some “Behind the Scene” photos of the studio setup.

Hand Papermaking studio edition

(Photograph by Jim Escalante)The Summer 2012 edition is in print. It is the fourth edition that I have designed. Hand Papermaking is the best resource for all aspects of papermaking. This issue is dedicated to information for papermaking studios and equipment. Every issue has a few samples of actual handmade paper. You can see a photograph of a sample spread in the Hand Papermaking gallery. Try getting that tactical delight from an eBook! Keep this publication going. Photography related posts and information will be inserted to my teaching site. Keeping tabs on different web locations take up too much time which is better spent creating new content. Instead of trying to manage different sites, some of my photographic work will be integrated in this teaching site. Two photography links are located on the right Navigation sidebar, Photography archive and Flickr photo gallery. They will display current photographs.
