Little Monroe Gallery Now Open

 (Photography by Jim Escalante/Photo by Jim Escalante)The second of three “Little Galleries” slated to be open in Madison, Wisconsin had a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, July 12, 2013 at 5:00 PM on its site at  Monroe Street Framing. Rachel Bruya and her collaborator Jeremy Wineberg have plans to open a third “Little Gallery” on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus soon. Artist Scott Espeseth is the featured artist in this exhibition. More photos of the ribbon cutting can be seen at Little Monore Gallery ribbon cutting. It is off the wall!

Faculty Associate and UW-Madison alumni Michael Velliquette’s exhibition at Edgewood College Art Gallery literally jumps off the wall. His cut paper assemblages are paired with text by Quan Barry. Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau, the American author, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, historian, and leading transcendentalist turns 150 years old this year. In 1993 Baraboo Artist and UW-Madison printmaking alum Ann Parker produced and installed 18, 30”x 50” prints to fit together to create a continuous image, 54’ long, that winds around the the entry area of the school. You can see the prints on AnnPerryParkerPrints, a site that I designed to help promote sales.

The College Book Arts Association conference took place at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana January . The CBAA is an organization dedicated to promoting Book Arts in Colleges and Universities. This year University of Wisconsin-Madison Alum Julie VonDerVellen took first place in the student section. Kathleen O’Connell Speaks to Book Artists

Kathleen O’Connell speaking to the Art 446 Artists’ Book class about her exhibit in the Rockford College Art Gallery, Rockford, Illinois. The show, is titled “Observations from the New World”. Kathleen currently live in Lima Peru. Her exhibition combines the disciplines of printmaking and book arts in her show. The work is inspired by her relocation to Peru. We enjoy having her participate in an informal class critique.
