Fall 2015 | Art 446: Artists’ Book – This is not complete

Single sheet book
Using a single sheet of paper create a book by cutting, folding, or a combination of methods. It is fine to use adhesive to create a larger single sheet of paper. Search for books using terms such as, fortune teller, scroll, tumble. Draw imagery or write text to show how the content will be integrated with the book’s form. Bring three solutions to class.

Sewing on Tapes & Hard Case binding
Sew a book block on tapes. In class we will have a demonstration how to sew a book on tapes. The first project will explore using the tapes as a visual element on a soft cover book. Once we master sewing on tapes, we will design and produce a hard cover book.The Indiana University Libraries has a very comprehensive photo tutorial on sewing and casing in a book. The tutorial can be seen by visiting the Making a Book link.

Design and construct a Clamshell Portfolio AKA Drop Spine Box . Below are tutorials to assist with the construction of your Clamshell Portfolio.
